Today we, my hubby, 2 sons and I, traveled to the military base where my now 21 year old is stationed. He has 2-12 hour passes this weekend!!!
Oh Happy Day!
We left the homestead at Zero-Dark-Thirty…sorry it was 4:43 am and it was still dark! We drove the endless expanse of rain soaked roads in the wee hours and as the sun began to rise, behind the clouds, we reached the main security gate. Following the signs to the meeting place we joined a group of people who shared the same desire…
After a short briefing we were released and walked out of the double doors onto the covered deck leading to the parking lot…There they were!
The formation of soldiers in parade rest was a beautiful and heart pounding moment. Anxious family members moved to better catch a glimpse of their elusive soldier. The final order was yelled over the whispering of family members and the soldiers moved…We moved down the steps and scanned the uniformed group and there, coming directly to us, was our son…
( sorry I just got a bit choked up just thinking about it!)
He went directly to my hubby and gave him a hug and led us to the parking lot. Once there he turned and caught my overly proud and motherly gaze and said “I Love You!” We hopped in the truck and our day began! The stories were many and filled with sound effects galore! “I have missed these sound effects!”
Tomorrow we will return to the base and pick him up again. 12 more hours with him…ending tomorrow at 8pm. Needless to say we have already planned our return trip in May for graduation.
I apologize for not being focused on writing…I have been a bit preoccupied on seeing him and packing…and Easter! I am tired but very happy!
“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”
