Well it finally happened…the last day of Summer. ( According to the school calendar!)
Back To School!…again!
I have taken advantage of my time today by cleaning the wood floor, with a new cleaning product. I just applied the glossy finisher and am letting it dry. I will watch the clock and intercept my son before he walks through the door. “Can’t have his footprints across the possibly still drying floor…Can we!”
I will take him down to my favorite hangout…Starbucks…and surprise him with an after-school treat. The floors should be good and dry by the time we get home. We will then get to the task at hand of sorting thought the first collection of information-seeking-signature-requiring-mountain of paperwork. “I can’t wait!” (Insert a very sarcastic chuckle)
I am gladly prepared to find a normal schedule. The only problem is the fact that I will not have that until sometime in October. Oh well…a girl can dream!
“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”
We have another exciting day ahead of us after completing the biggest part of it yesterday. We met the teachers and toured the school…compared the supply list with what we recently bought…and splurged! I took my youngest to Starbucks yesterday and let him order for himself and all by himself. Wait until you hear: we pulled up into the parking lot and I handed him my Starbuck’s card…”Order any cold Grande drink and then, when they tell you how much it will be, hand them the drink receipt and then the card. I will pull around through the drive-through and order mine and meet you on the other side.” He was thrilled at the chance to order whatever he wanted. Off he went…looking both ways as he crossed to the entrance way…I pulled out and headed for the drive-through. I paid for my drink and pulled around and waited for a moment before he emerged…with a larger-than-life grin painted across his face. In his hand he held a Grande Java Chip Frappiccino with swirls of whipped cream and chocolate on top. He got in the car and said, matter-of-factly, “I know why you let me do this…so I could learn how to order and pay using your card before getting one of my own!” I just smiled and said…”Nope…I did it to get the stars…” He looked at me with a puzzled look and I had to laugh. I told him he did need to be able to do this on his own and that I was proud of him being able to do it without anyone there to help. He liked that better!
We may run up to Walmart today and pick up another pair of jeans for him…but between you and me I may just put that on the list of things to do tomorrow with hubby…that way he can pay for it.
I have spent way to much on school and a certain 13th birthday. “Yep…my youngest turns 13 in 10 days.” What he doesn’t know will bring smiles to his face…you should see what I have already bought… He was watching a movie trailer yesterday and I heard him say, “I should read that book before seeing the movie!” Good thing I already have the book!
Time for a few minor chores this morning before the day moves into full swing…Coffee Break!
“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”
The day has finally arrived…I was so stoked that I watched the clock for the last 30-40 minutes. “Great!” The gentle reminders of all that needed to be accomplished today began to flood in about 5:45am…like a continuous childhood poke!
Put juice in the freezer
Wake up hubby and youngest son
Let Precious Princess out
Yep! It’s Monday!
I am happy to report that I am actually ahead of the game. I cleaned out the leftovers from both refrigerators and managed to have them taken to the garbage can already out on the curb. “I am soooo good!” (No! I did not lift the heavy garbage bag…you can put that ever-shaking-finger away…for now!) The dirty dishes have been loaded into the dishwasher allowing another check mark on my list of To-Do’s.
“I must confess that I have been anxiously awaiting this Monday…!
I need some normal routines, as I told you last week, to wrap my head around. My poor ADHD is on overdrive and I am lovin’ it! The downside to schedule is the two sickies in the house. I did not ask for this…hack, sneeze, hack, talk back, and repeat! “Just hush and drink your hot tea!”
(No awards for being a nurturing mother this week…nope!)
I am working on my second espresso of the morning and the shifting-multitasking-mind of mine is moving me around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.
multiple espressos+routine chores+multitasking=exercise…RIGHT!
Okay, well at least I know I am burning some calories…hehe! I just put some groceries away and straightened the pantry…my oldest son picked up a heavy box for me and set it in the chair so I could easily reach the items I needed to put away. I just adore checking off those lovely To-Do’s!
I started doing a re-organizing clean after New Year’s in preparation for my new business. (Yes, I have decided to try something new!) My “Launch” is a week from Saturday and the house must be beyond clean. “I have a reputation to live up to!” Sadly many of my friends have been to my house and have always commented on how clean it stays…hehe…secrets of the trade. I know what your thinking…”slave labor”… Nope! The boys may help but there are a good many things they just don’t know how to do. Think about it…boys and organization equals stacks and stacks of uniquely mixed items. I do not need that right now…do you? If I could just get my number two son to remove all of his gadgets and their boxes the kitchen area would be a much cleaner open space. “He has been buying unique kitchen accessories, for when he moves out, and they are…well…not your average accessories.
Cotton candy machine
Oversized exercise ball
The house is slowly emptying…my 19 year old just left leaving my two oldest sons here. One is leaving in about an hour and the other one is sick…sick…sick! “I am staying away from him…no tempting fate!” I will put on some music and swiftly putter around the house before heading out to the store and then TKD this afternoon. It will be a wonderful day…for a Monday!
I hope you can accomplish everything set before you today…as for me I am off to check off the rest of my list.
Have a great day!
It is still dark outside and there are no morning shadows moving across my floor. I have finished my first over-sized espresso and am preparing hubby’s commuter cup. “Signs of normalcy! Finally!” This limbo of sorts, with two holidays smashed together, has really thrown this semi-chaos-organizing-
freak-queen to quietly plead for the return of the chaotic normal. The light is teasing me from the end of the tunnel…as it inches closer and closer. Sunday with be the official start of my oh-so-typical-routine. And then the blessed routine of Monday! OMG…I am “Waiting for Normal!
My family have been the house too long and I have not been able to peruse my daily chore list like usual. My fridge has been stack and packed, vicariously with leftovers, and resembles the Leaning Tower of Piza. (My sons are quite talented at food storage…NOT!) Removing the wrong item could cause a landslide of leftovers to cascade onto the floor. “I personally would not want to see that…much less clean that!” I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend!
Speaking of leftovers…my menu planning is returning to normal. My oldest just came upstairs to eat breakfast and wanted to know what was for dinner. It was not even 8:00 and this sleepy old brain was asked that question. “Hmmm…How about Hashbrown Casserole?” What a great way to use the leftover ham from New Years and the frozen bag of Hashbrowns. That was easy…yea! One less thing to worry about today and I am all for that. The rest of the Ham will be put with a meal that “our mutual cat loving friend” and I are taking to a family who just experienced a loss of a child.
My hubby is having issues of his own. Situations at work have caused him to question remaining there. “He is making less than several of the low-of-the-totem-pole employees and he is management.” I told him he would know when it is time and that God would open a door for him…he agreed! Monday…New Year’s Eve…my hubby got a phone call from a previous work associate. “Do I have a job for you!” The short of it is my hubby interviewed for this new position yesterday and it would mean more $$$$ and, of course, higher title. The downside is the longer commute! I know he plans to talk with his present boss, and long-time friend today. This will be a very long day for my hubby!
Oh No…my coffee is empty! BRB!
That was close! Another reason for my ever-growing-need for Normal is the fact that my youngest brought home a bug…from school. “No, not that kind of bug, but a lovely little cold that has finally reached every person in the family.” Aren’t I thrilled! The supply of daytime and nighttime medications are readily available for all to take…except me. Yea…goody…thrill of a lifetime! I cannot take these convenient meds…so self treating until my doctor gets back in town. Fortunately…no fever or loss of voice…just boxes of Kleenex in every room and the sound of echoing blowing noses. Oh and my youngest is feeling fine NOW. Come Monday he is back to school and TKD and homework and relaxing normalcy.
Time for me to get my life back into the cleaning-organized-list-provoked-menu-planned-schedule-driven routine. Shh! I can almost hear the Blue Bird of Happiness singing it’s happy little song. Sorry…it was just a scampering pair of squirrels chasing each other through the trees.
Well I am still motivated and excited to return to the same old daily routine. I have decided to add something else to my plate but that is something I will share on another day.
The sun is up and the morning shadows are stretching across my floor as my Precious Princess snoozes on the couch. She has her “Spa Day” tomorrow and will be groomed and bathed. She will be back to normal and hopefully will stop leaving those little furry souvenirs around the house. As for me…I am off to make an Apple Crisp, for later, before the end of holiday roar between the siblings penetrates my day.
I am seeing more coffee in my near future…Do you want a cup?
Do you have a routine or desire a schedule led day? Let me know!
Have a great day!
Mental flow-chart completed and ready for additions and the possible eliminations. Today is a day for another fun-filled-day of workman bustling around my house. I am sure glad that I have no place to go today…oh wait!…it is election day and I need to vote. (add voting to the mental-flow-chart!)
I have plenty of things on my detail-oriented-to-do-list. I planned and executed thoroughly as I drifted in and out of sleep cycles last night. “Which would explain my deep desire for more strong coffee!” The details danced around my head to the tune of the solo I have to learn for the Choir Special on Sunday morning. It is a rich-fast-paced-soulful-ad-lib-way-outside-the-comfort-zone type of solo. “I really need to learn to control the dancing going on in my head…I get wired when I should be tired!” Just a thought…”Wouldn’t it be great if all that dancing and moving around would burn calories?”
Yep…Busy is My Middle Name!
So, as usual, I was up early and headed down the stairs in full auto-pilot mode and began the squirting and pouring of milk and syrups for the espresso. I glanced out the oversized windows and saw the sporadic rain drops that were beginning to splash on the surface of the deck. I opened the mental-flow-chart and marked through a couple of items due to the change in the weather and continued with the preparation of breakfast. “I guess I was to busy in all that planning and forgot to organize the weather for today.”
The workman just called and they will be here in about 20 minutes.
The daily pills have been placed in the container for my youngest. With the added activities this school year I am trying something new…anything to streamline the schedule. My youngest has been taking TKD, as you know, but with school starting tomorrow it is going to be interesting with homework thrown into the mix. But wait…that’s not all… A new basketball league is getting ready to start, at our church, and is scheduled to run from August to the first weekend in November. Let’s just say..”We will see how well this works!” If my youngest cannot keep up with his school work and be polite and focused at home, TKD, and basketball he will not be able to participate next season. “I will keep you posted!”
I know my mutual-cat-loving-friend is thrilled…we may get to see each other because her son will be playing on the same league.
Well…daylight is burning (overcast daylight) and I have a couple of things to do before the workman arrive. I just want to know one thing before I close…What is your Middle Name? Have a great day!
Teachers to meet, classes to find.
Retracing the steps left behind.
Four days left, back to the grind.
Time to bring order to the mind.
Summer’s still here, for goodness sake.
I wish I was going to the lake.
Early to bed, and early I wake,
To catch the school bus I have to take.
Pencils and pens, paper all lined.
New shoes for the stairs I will climb.
Notebooks and folders, paper will bind.
Here are the forms for you to sign!
This can’t be real! See the date!
It is time for more memories to make.
Mom just smiles, “Don’t be late!”
“Back to School…You’ve Made a Mistake!”
This was based on some of the phrases my soon to be 6th Grader has said since yesterday. School starts August 1st…Wednesday and that is four days away. He really has mixed feelings about school starting. Can you see that in these thoughts? We met the teachers yesterday and the topic was the same among the parents and kids….”It seems early this year!”…”Can I go see my friends?”…these questions could be heard all around us. The good news is that we will have a week off in September so the first official countdown has begun. “Sorry…I still tend to think like a teacher.”
When do your kids start school? Are you ready for what the new year will bring?
I am glad I only have one going to school…which means only one stack of forms to sign. Yes…yes…yes! I hope you enjoy this end of Summer with your family….Have a great day!
