Peach State says: Isn’t That Grand!?

What an incredible view I was able to share with my hubby and youngest!  It was our first time at the Grand Canyon and I have to admit I was in awe!  Pictures don’t do it justice!  “Isn’t That Grand!?”  Every nook and cranny was a revolving door of shadow and light.  The flow of the clouds danced along the peaks and layers providing photographers multiple chances to catch the perfect shot.  “If I may state for the record…There is no way a person can take a bad picture of the Grand Canyon.

It is important to share with you that you may need to have a designated non-photographer in your group.  This way you can move around and not worry about running into others taking the same picture.  Small groups of visitors moved around in the same familiar state…Phones and tripods with multiple lenses all focused on the amazing sight.  Selfies and groups with an ever changing backdrop scattered along the rocky and uneven edge of the South Rim.  There were a few photo enthusiasts who dared to attempt the best phot on the edge. I spoke with them…the title of their picture was “Giving Birth to the World!”  I won’t tell you what the pose was…you have already let your mind run with the thought.  “You should probably stop before you embarrass me as well as yourself.”

The weather on this beautiful day was chilly-windy-glad-I-had-my-thermal-shirt-and-sweatshirt day.  The wind was sustained winds between 25-30 mph with temperatures in the lower to mid 50’s.  “BURR!!!”
I had seen documentaries about the Grand Canyon and knew about the clouds flowing over the edge.  I have a few others with the varied depth of flow.  But, I knew there was a chance of wintry mix and with the cloudy overcast skies moving in we decided to leave this overwhelming and heart fluttering place.  I am, as you know, a weather watcher and a prepared mama…just wait!

As we were strolling along the path, toward the car, a wonder sentiment burst in my direction …”War Eagle!” I smiled and replied “War Eagle” and kept moving.  My hubby asked how he knew I was an Auburn fan…I just laughed and said “Honey I do have my Auburn strap on my glasses and a perfect shade of orange sweatshirt.  We recognize each other!”  He simply shook his head.  Auburn fans are everywhere!

As we said goodbye to the Grand Canyon and drove out of the park, with the heat on, we were privileged to see a group of elk.Sorry for the blur…hubby was driving a bit over the speed limit.

I have more to share but don’t want to overload you with my unedited pictures.  I will do my best to give you a beautiful insight into our vacation!  Till then…

Coffee is my _______! Fill it in!

Peach State says: Is Anyone With Me In The Giant Void?

20140123-131430.jpgI am sitting here watching the movie that inspired my “blogging endeavor”.

Julie & Julia…one of my favorite movies about two of my favorite things.  Cooking and friends.

As Amy Adams character begins her blog she feels a emptiness that the words that pour out her into her blog fall into the undiscovered-vast-expanse of the deepening internet reality.  “I have felt like that…have you?”

The pure love of food and sharing it with those closest to you…what would you serve?

Julie is up to the Lobster Thermadore ( forgive the spelling if incorrect!)  “Lobster Killer!”

I laughed so hard when the lid rises, as if the lobsters are working together to escape the “Lobster Killer”, and Julie goes running into the other room!  “Between you and me…I have no room to talk…I have never cooked a whole lobster!”

I remember going to Seattle, with my hubby, to celebrate our anniversary and having this incredible entree called “Steak Oscar”. Cheese, artichokes and crab mixed into a lovely tasty topping for my filet.  Melt in your mouth good!  Some might say better than ________!

“You can put whatever you would like to put in the blank…hehe!”

I had to attempt the delectable mixture at home.  “Success!”.  Reality does tend to enter our existence on a daily basis.  Meltdowns occur, recipes burn, dishes explode all over the kitchen.  “15 second rule!”  Julia said to never apologize if it doesn’t look right…it’s always the way it’s supposed to be!  Silly me…I still apologize!  Perhaps I am more The Pioneer Woman instead of  Julia Childs.

I guess it is a good thing my hubby likes my creativity!  What is your favorite dish?

Life is a great cup of coffee and a box of dark chocolate!

Peach State says:  The Power of Invisible Mosquitos!

Now that you have finished the laughing and nodding your head in total agreement…think about it!

We try to keep our emotions in check!  The proverbial straight-jacket-squad stands ready, at all sides, to jump in and wrap you up like a snug-little-bug-in-a-rug to keep us from flying off our assorted handles.  Yes, assorted handles!  The handles may be oversized, large, small or even loose needing to be tightened…but that doesn’t mean anything.  Size doesn’t matter because they are individually related to each of us!  What may be small for some may be huge for others!  So my lecture for the day…mainly speaking to myself…is:

Shake your head, shed a tear, and don’t forget “The Power Of Invisible Mosquitos!”…Then laugh!  And when you are done remember one thing!  (Am I listening?)

Let go!…God has stronger hands to hold my circumstances, and the those belonging to those close to me, in order.  He’s got this!!! Oh, and He gave us the ability to laugh when thinking about those wonderful “Invisible Mosquitos!”

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”

Peach State says: A Graceful Lady Passes

2015/01/img_6595.jpg
The day had finally arrived.
We had all expected the news…yet who really wants to hear the words. “Mema passed away this morning.”
These words are still ringing vividly after almost two weeks. Let me just say…

“A Graceful Lady Passes!”

A sweet gathering of friends and family remembered Mema in the quietly spoken words and gentle hugs. Memories flooded the small chapel as her beautiful reminder lay quiet. “Funerals are not one of my strong suits!”
The minister had asked for memories from the grandchildren and great-grands. Funny thing is…the words were all the same. He spoke with me before the service and asked if was the author of a certain memory. I smiled and said yes…Here are the words.

“Just a few words or brief memory…impossible! This is the best I can do.
Butterscotch ( buttered rum) Lifesavers, Juicy Fruit gum, Clove gum, 7-up and grape juice, Welch’s Grape Juice, taffy pulls, coloring, fluffy comforters, her grace and elegance, dress-up like a princess, etiquette lessons, crossing legs at the ankles, using correct grammar, life lessons and shared wisdom, simple made special, fresh tomato sandwiches, tuna sandwiches and tomato soup, We don’t play with the buzzer, the joys of conversation, walks on the beach, choosing a good book, the preparing of a tray and successfully carrying it to the sun parlor, and the importance of a good cup of coffee.
Mema impacted my life and will continue to impact my life with everything she taught me. I love you Mema!”

It has been difficult to walk through my home and not think of Mema…
I run my hand on the back of the four chairs that used to occupy her home. These memory filled reminders tug at my heart with lessons and laughter from the past. Even now, as I sit out on my screened-porch, I find a smile on my face as I recall the conversations we had over morning coffee. The calming appreciation of the scampering squirrels chasing each other through the trees and crunchy ground cover as well as the gentle breeze stirring the tall slender trunks of leafless branches were just one of the valuable lessons she passed on to those who would take the time to listen. “I listened!”
“Of course…I need more coffee to truly experience this memory…Be Right Back!”

Well that’s better! Granted she wasn’t an espresso drinker!

There was a picture at the service of Mema sitting in the white chair that now sits in my foyer/dinning room. I, sadly, do not have that photo but will be inquiring about it!

2015/01/img_2175.jpg

The little pink “Princess Chair” sits in my room and has been used quite a bit. “I put my shoes and socks on while sitting in this delicate chair.”

2015/01/img_2178.jpg How can I not think about her at every turn in my house?

2015/01/img_2177.jpg

2015/01/img_2176.jpg

So with a tearful eye and enriched heart I cast a “royal like wave”, as only she would wave, up to heaven to let her know she may be gone but in no way forgotten.

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”

Peach State says: Noooo! I’m Not Ready!

IMG_6067.JPG

Why is it, with everything already on my plate, I am suddenly handed another plate? I am going to need another cup of AWAKE…a strong one!

“Nooooo! I’m not Ready!”

Grocery shopping,
Haircuts for me and my youngest son,
Packing more boxes,
Sorting through and throwing away,
One last load of laundry to fold,
Fix dinner for one extra person tonight…

But wait…that’s just the normal stuff!

Follow-up with dentist after Oral Surgery a week ago,
Follow-up with Urgent Care doctor after an untimely slicing incident Sunday,
“Oh honey, don’t forget the cement guy is coming to tear up the driveway and pour a new one”,
“Hey Darling, why don’t you go pick out a new refrigerator that you want and have it delivered the day we move…”,

And if that doesn’t look fun…
“Hey Hon, could you sort through my shoes and pack the ones I don’t really wear…that would be great!”

The fun thing about packing up boxes is the fact that I have a slight excuse not to do much cleaning…the down side is the fact that I have had to open two sealed boxes already…1)to find the thermometer. “Yep, I have been running a low grade temp!” And 2) to find the razor hubby uses everyday…”OOOPS!” At least I knew right where to look! “I’m sooo organized…“HeHeHe!”

The sun is just beginning to rise through the trees and it’s almost time for the mass exodus. I will then begin the second part of my day. “How many parts will this day have?” I will wait for the arrival of the cement guy and then head out to my Urgent Care facility for that follow-up. I wonder if I can just stay gone most of the day. No grocery shopping though…I am not going to park across the road and then unload the car!

I am going to finish my coffee and get dressed…carefully. I don’t want to hit the bandage.

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”

Peach State says: Slow Down…It’s Not Even Halloween!

IMG_6059.JPG

School has been in session for almost two months and today is the last official day of “Fall Break”. My son and I have been watching the store shelves unfold the to be expected seasonal creepiness…but mixed in with the fall foliage and bags of dental anxiety is the oh so early signs of Christmas! “Come On!!! How many times do I need to say the same thing?”

Slow Down…It’s Not Even Halloween!

I guess this bring on the next holiday mentality is hitting me a little harder this year due in part to the multiple taped cardboard boxes filling the rooms on the main floor of my home! I cannot decorate yet…not until we move into our new home sometime the end of October. “I am going through seasonal decoration withdrawals!” What’s a girl to do? Grin and bear it…grind my teeth till my jaws ache in overwhelming agony! “Oh wait! Been there done that…another story!”

Can anyone explain why retailers insist upon initiating the Christmas holiday before the end of Septmeber? Don’t we have enough in our proverbial plates without the continuous reminders of how many shopping day remain until Christmas? Have I even started shopping? “Well I did find a perfect gift for my Military Son…and yes I bought it!” I can only hope I can find the box marked VIP Christmas 2014 when I get to the new house!

Perhaps the progressive march of the calendar is moving faster than I am ready to admit. So many differences this year as we head into the seasonal decorator’s paradise. With the three older boys no longer living at home and the expectations of change virtually doubled (or quadrupled) by moving;
it is easy to feel like I am moving at a turtle’s pace compared to most.

Hold on while I enjoy my pity party…

Okay…time to move one! Lots to do today and I need to move the laundry. Oh how I wish someone would drop by and wiggle their nose or blink everything into neat little snug boxes so that I could focus on the house work! The good news is the fact that with boxes everywhere I don’t have to vacuum or dust. “Well…not as much!”

I must confess…I have, in all my pre-planning of room arrangements, been trying to figure out where the Christmas Tree would go. Crud! Does this mean I am one of those way-too-early Christmas people? I hope not! Otherwise the fall candles I have in another specially marked box will not be enjoyed as they should.

Enough said…I am off to see how much I can pack away!!

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”

Peach State says: Are You A Good Mom?

20140510-134936.jpg

If only this was the only test…
The path of a good mom will lead down many a varied way filled with obstacles and clutter. Your journey is filled with strength zapping activities and long hours of thankless chores. Painted on smiles and tear stained cheeks reflect in the mirrors you pass through the day. A heart filled with love for those around you…no matter the daily strife. A mom will experience all of this. So you see…
No matter what path you take…You Are A Good Mom!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all! And don’t forget to call your mother!

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”
