Peach State says: New Years On My Mind

20121229-102910.jpg

If only that were a true statement! I enjoy my coffee, as you well know, and have the Heavenly Brew in my handy-dandy-oversized-cup most of my waking day. “I know…the statement refers to my personal world…family, home, children.” (uh huh!)
Posters and pictures like this have really circulated on my Facebook this past week as we prepare for the New Year. Habits, traditions, hopes and dreams…are being brought up and suggested…it is time to take a moment and reflect…Yes! New Years On My Mind!

This year will be different…Right?

20121229-103906.jpg
Soo…All I have to do is not be a mess and I won’t be exhausted!
Well that would make for some interesting blogs.
I have plenty of areas that need my attention…“Quit agreeing with me!” Priorities need to be shuffled and that may mean letting somethings go. “Don’t panic…it won’t be my music or friends!” A different order to life, including the children and what they are responsible for, may come into play. I can tell you now…they will not like the changes.

This will take some thought and a little idea gathering. Goody! I love idea gathering…it means time with my dear friends. “Do I have any takers?” Great minds do tend to think alike…hehe…but they also come up with some of the best solutions to life’s little problems.

Speaking of those problems…it is time for me to head out the door and and begin my trek of duties. All is done inside…laundry, dishwasher, counter tops, even dinner has been started. I hope this does not take to long!

Please send your suggestions in for how to approach this New Year! Have a great day!

Peach State says: His Foot Is On My Coat-Tails!

20121127-065258.jpg
The picture was taken last year the day before Back To Bethlehem started. This year…I will not be able to walk the streets of this seasonal reminder! The city gates welcome modern day visitors to stroll amongst costume clad people recreating Bethlehem. The street, lined with shops, winds through scenes of daily life. But this year I will be lucky to attend as a visitor…my hubby has put his foot down and stood there…His Foot Is On My Coat-Tails!

I understand his reasoning! He has gotten very protective of me, in the past year, in regards to my health and well-being. He has realized that the wife of a year ago has become a limping-hunched-over-pain-filled-try-to-hide-it-push-through-the-pain-nightly-pill-popping-maniac. Oops! I left off Coffee-drinking-enthusiast! (insert chuckle) I do try to hide how I am feeling and I used to do a great job of it when it came to my hubby. But…he has changed! It is not that he dotes on me…that is not his style; instead he is aware of the world around him and in his own unique way shows a deepening love for me. “Okay, I agree that is a bit sappy! You have to realize my hubby of almost 27 years has grown up and is finally learning to appreciate what he has instead of constantly out-doing the Jones’s.” I have told you about the little things he does for me…Right? Now he is tenderly, with no room for compromise, recommending I not participate. How did he put it? Oh yeah…”I do not want to hear you moan and groan every night about how sore you are or that you don’t feel good because of the constant smoke from the fire pits in the city. You need to take care of yourself and if you won’t I will make sure you do!” (aww! Isn’t that sweet?) Sadly…he is right! It takes a toll on everyone who participates but, we do it for a heart-wrenching-tis-the-season-reason.
I can understand where he is coming from and based on health issues, that have recently reared their ugly heads, it is best that I not participate. No need making things worse! I get enough finger-shaking-you-should-not-be-doing-that from my friends. (I know it is from the heart!) Maybe…just maybe…if I behave myself…I can help a certain friend set up her shop Saturday like I did last year. “I will need to bring my own step-ladder!”

I will muster through this difficult time at-home-where-it-is-cozy-and-warm-inside-out-of-the cold-night-air-enjoying-my-dinner-in-a-relaxing-fire-pit-smoke-free-area. BUT… I want to go, as a modern day visitor, this year…maybe I can convince my hubby to go as a family…after all there are cookies and hot chocolate after you go through the city and it is FREE! We will see! You never know! My hubby has developed a desire to do more as a family just to irritate the boys. I think this is just the activity to achieve this. This means they would not be able to be with their friends that night or do what they want to do. “Oh how awful!” After all, according to the boys, we are parents whose sole preoccupation in life is to destroy the lives of our children. Hehe…mission accomplished? Yea Right!

So as I close, on this chilly rainy morning, I will rest for a few minutes and finish my coffee. I will straighten the house as I putter around before heading out and about with one of my sons. “I have so much to do today…couldn’t I just stay home and out of the rain?” I need to watch the slow-cooker as it prepares the pork-loin for dinner, I need to fluff the pillows on the couch, I need to make sure the decorations are where I want them on the tree, I need to finish watching the movie I started last night so I can make room for more Christmas movies on the TiVo…What? Those are important things to do…and I don’t have anything else to do. I cleaned the kitchen already this morning and the laundry is done…bed is made…dry cleaning was picked up…groceries have been bought and put away…
I should call my hubby…he will let me stay home and take care of myself…hehe!

Have a great day!

Peach State says: I Will Keep RemindingYou…So You Will Notice!

20121126-080951.jpg

“Do you want me to sent you a picture or just surprise you when you get home?”
I asked my hubby as he was leaving this morning. He paused and said “Surprise me!” and then he turned and said…”Picture of what?”. I had to laugh and reminded my hubby of my FREE haircut/color/ style appointment today. “Oh yeah! I knew that…” he said.
I chuckled and said…”I Will Keep Reminding You…So You Will Notice!

It’s a guy thing…RIGHT? With my schedule full of exciting things today I will be short. “Wait..I am already short!”. ( Those of you who know me…quit laughing.)

20121126-081930.jpg

My day out and about starts early this morning with a trip to the bank and dropping off of a son then running to get gas…COFFEE…then to the salon. I will then head to the grocery store for the needed non-turkey-and-all-the-trimmings food.

I will let you know how things go today…BTW…my house is almost complete as I have spent the past Friday and Saturday decorating for Christmas. Have a great day!

Peach State says: Doctors Orders!

20120509-072723.jpg
Have no fear…my hubby is doing the ordering…not the doctor! He just wants me to get a little more rest after the last couple of days. I will be quickly writing the Facebook Funnies in a little while as well as accepting the honor given to me by another blogger. Until then…it is time to catch a few more ZZZZ’s!

Peach State says: Let the Cravings Begin!

20120508-080325.jpg
Yesterday was a successful day of firsts…today…OUCH! I am hurting in places I didn’t know I could hurt. Of course…this may not be the result of the exercise class alone, but the stepping in and out of chairs as I twisted and reached for bulletin board displays and “ABC’s” throughout my friend’s classroom.

“Drinking my latte’ is a true act of love as I stretch and feel the burn with each lifting of the cup.”

Today is my husband’s first complete day without smoking! He typically smoked about 2 packs a day and yesterday he only had 10! He is resolved to quit for health reasons…and to support a co-worker who has been ordered to quit by his doctor. My husband often resembled a puffing chimney, during the coldest of winter days, as it sends a constant graying haze into the air.” The snacks, that I sent with him yesterday, are still in the fridge at work. I did not have to cut or chop today. He has a jar of oversized Lifesaver Mints on his desk, which will be gone before the day is over, to aid in the cravings. He does not want any chocolate or nuts! “Remember…we’re dieting!” One of my sons told him to wear a rubber-band and pop it against the wrist when he wanted to smoke…Electro-shock would work too…Want a smoke? ZAP! “I know the wires wouldn’t reach that far…but what about a set of jumper-cables?”
I am just kidding!
The ability to remain calm is not the easiest thing to do when quitting. I had been through this before and knew brief “solar flare” reactions would replace the simple talking-to lectures. Our youngest did not listen or heed the warning!
My husband needed to suck a cig down after our youngest set him
off early this morning! My husband asked our son why he tried to take extra food and why he stole something that belonged to his brother. He said…”I was starving!”
#1: he gets 4x the servings of cereal…and he had just finished eating breakfast!
#2: he has a snack at school after his lunch…
#3: he has gained weight but the doctor wants him to gain more due to his body’s ability to burn calories and the ADHD!
#4: he eats extra servings of fruits and vegetables with bread and starches on the side.

He eats more than I do for goodness sake!

The “Dieting Cravings” have begun too…
My husband said no bread…granted my bread items are low in everything but hearing this statement, all I wanted was a toasted bagel…With lots of cream cheese!
My husband said less Starbucks…”whoa!” I drink mine ultra skinny…my hubby drinks his venti vanilla breve’. This is a large espresso with half &half and vanilla syrup!
My husband said no baked items...”but..but..but!” Okay so I could stand to lose some but! (butt)

I just hope to get through the first week. Things will be easier…not easy…but easier after that!
Anyone have any good suggestions to surviving the cigarette and diet cravings?
Common sense tells me not to undertake these two things at the same time…to bad my husband does not use directions when assembling items or doesn’t ask for directions when lost!
I will keep you posted!

As for me…it is time for me to get ready to help my friend in her classroom again. A room full of 1st Graders is a wonderful and energetic distraction from cravings! So bring on the hunger…the shakes…the raised voices…”We are ready to face these challenges sooo…Let the Cravings Begin!

Have a great day!

Peach State says:Today is a Day Of Firsts!

20120507-065907.jpg
The day is as calm as it will get…the schedule for today is complex and filled with new endeavors.
Today is a Day of Firsts!

With it being a Monday I am up, as a friend call it, at the “butt-crack of dawn”. I begin my normal routine and know that several extra tasks have been added. My husband had several bad experiences with lunch last week and asked for items that he could take instead of eating out. So… am cutting up celery and carrots.

20120507-070556.jpg
After I fixed his breakfast and our lattes’ I set upon the task of chop…chop…chop! I also cut up some pineapple and strawberries. Hopefully he will not eat all of it and have some left for tomorrow. Yep…you guessed it…he is trying to diet!

He announced Saturday that he was going to quit smoking! “That’s wonderful!…when?”

20120507-071046.jpg
Monday!”
He bought the Nicorette Patches yesterday. Boy…Today is a Day of Firsts

My 19 year old went to work out early this morning and will come home and clean up only to return to the same gym…he starts teaching his first class, Self Defense and Boxing, today!
Early day for my 21 year old…instead of the 11:00 starting time he opens today.

And what will I be doing today…I am also experiencing a first today!
I will be going to Curves this morning…

20120507-071946.jpg
I need to get motivated and find some accountability!
I did try on a pair of my old pants yesterday and almost got them buttoned. “That’s better than the last time!”
When I finish at Curves I will run home (drive) and clean up before heading up to help a friend in her classroom. “It’s that time of year again…time for the sorting and reorganizing of games and books…time to pack her personal teaching aids…did I mention she is moving to a new school in the fall?”

“I better take some Tylenol and see if I can keep this migraine from starting! I am already feeling it in my neck and forehead…Not Good!”

After helping my friend for about three hours I will return home and…
NAP!
“I wish!” I will begin the everyday cleaning and preparation of dinner. “Mom’s job is never done…and if it is then no ones tells mom!” Fortunately I don’t have a whole lot to do on my daily chore list. “Now there is a First!

What is on your list of things to do today? You might be surprised and find that Today is a Day of Firsts for you as well! As for me…i will finish my latte and then go get ready…I will be leaving in about 35 minutes. Have a great day!

Peach State says: Happy Anniversary!

20120423-064506.jpg
Today is our 26th Wedding Anniversary…where did the time go? Happy Anniversary! to my Honey! I remember the day very clearly! My then fiancĂ©’ came home from work about 4 that Tuesday afternoon. I got off about 5 and drove the five short blocks to see him standing out in front of our apartment. He was grinning from ear to ear…”I am off tomorrow sooo….let’s get married! I immediately ran inside and called my boss in a frantic excitement. Every nerve in my body tingled and the tears were welling up in my eyes. I knew that this was short notice and was nervous my boss would not let me off. “Well congrats! That will be fine…I will take your class for you! Will I see you on Thursday?” I told her she would because he had to report back for duty on Thursday. With that settled I turned into the arms of my love.

Everything had already been gathered…the blood tests were completed and placed with the other paperwork. My roommate and her boyfriend would be our witnesses and they were thrilled when we told them that evening. I only had one hurdle standing in front of me…my parents! But what they didn’t know they could not stop.

Wednesday morning I ordered a few flowers and made a bouquet. The love of my life washed his truck. “I guess that is a guy thing!” We headed down to the courthouse and met up with our Best Man and Maid of Honor. My stomach was tossing and turning as it grumbled. I had been to excited to eat…we waited for what felt like an eternity…until the calling of our names stunned the silence.
It was a Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 when the Judge said “I now pronounce you husband and wife!” I floated out of the building and down the never-ending cascade of steps. We went home and I fixed dinner…we ate…and I left for choir practice. “Don’t shake your head!” My dad was the Minister of Music and there is no excuse for missing choir practice. Besides they did not know we were married!

I will not bore you with the unique and tedious details…we never have been the average couple. We only knew each other for 11 weeks. We were introduced and went on three dates in two weeks then he left for field exercises for 2 weeks. He proposed when he got back and then he went to Desert Training for 3 weeks about six days later. That was the longest three weeks of my life. When he returned from the Desert Training we were married 3 weeks later.

My dad bet me it would not last a year and thought I was only getting married because I was pregnant. “It was three years later when we welcomed our first son into the world!”
I guess I won that bet…to bad there was no money involved!

I found out from my mother that she and my father had eloped too! Imagine my surprise as she told me all about that tasty detail. Relief flooded over me! I had taken our marriage certificate to my mother and broke the news to her as she opened the envelope. My dad…well that was the hard one! I called him at work. “He could not throw a fit and had to remain calm!” He got us back for not telling them by calling us at 7:30 in the morning the Saturday after our wedding. “Good morning…you still sleeping? We are celebrating my birthday with a family picnic at the lake…the whole family…see you there!” The order was received and followed! We survived the family event and flurry of cross-examination type questioning.

My family have long since accepted my husband into the family and my parents do live him! It only took a few years…but they did come around. It may have been easier had we not moved back to his home state after he got out of the Army. “We moved from Georgia to Washington State…and I loved it!”

So here we are 26 years later… I have said goodbye to him this morning as he headed off to work…I will bake his one of his favorite cakes…Three-layer Chocolate Cake with almonds and clean the house and prepare and cook a dinner for him. We went out last night not knowing what time he might be able to get home tonight. I will clean the house and light the candles. Romance may have to wait…with three boys still living at home and normal schedules to follow…but our time will be special!

They said it would never last but here we are celebrating 26 years…I never considered the number of years…I just saw the happiness and love we would share together. So let me say it again…Happy Anniversary! I love being married…to my husband! Have a great day!
