Peach State says: Just A Glorious Day At The Vineyard!

Hidden just beyond a gentle Tennessee mountain pass is a small vineyard founded by country singer Kix Brooks. As you can tell, from the above pic, the sun was cloaked by hanging grey clouds that resembled a checkerboard in color. (Dark and darker..) BUT… I had the extreme joy to share this day with a friend and mutual country music fan. With the ominous threat of soggy-rainy-drizzle we simply prepared ahead of time with ponchos and umbrellas. “We were not going to let a little forecast dampen out outing!”

“Just A Glorious Day At The Vineyard!”

We left early and came home late…
I drove, in less than ideal conditions, surrounded by speeding natives…
The scenery was beautiful…”Glad my passenger and friend took pictures!”

We turned off the interstate and quickly found ourselves surrounded by silent green meadows. One more turn and we were greeted by a wooden giant quietly resting along side of the road.

We were directed to park…inside the gate…which proved to be the absolute best spot compared to the virtual ocean of cars that cascaded into the grassy area across from the main gate of the vineyard shortly after our arriving. We gathered our supplies for the day…
2 coolers (one for dry food and one for cold water and cheesy spreads)
2 comfy collapsing chairs
Oversized ground cover ( big beach towel)
And…Umbrella and ponchos

With straps hung on each of our shoulders we began the trek to find the perfect concert seating. A group of incredibly cordial bikers walked up behind us and a conversation was struck up. The patch-covered leather vest, walking along side of me, reached over and relieved my shoulder of the cooler as this low voice stated “You ladies should not have to carry all that weight!” He then took the one from my friend stunned momentarily at the weight of her cooler. ( ice chest and water bottles) They escorted us to a nice spot and with a few pleasant comments disappeared. “We looked for them the rest of the afternoon in hopes of getting a picture of our “Harley riding Knight” but “alas” they had vanished as quickly as they had appeared.

We then turned our attention to the main building for a bit of wine tasting. Once our names were on the waiting list we wandered the cozy gift store and purchased a couple bottles of the special Harvest Wine. The tasting was delightful…just wish there had been more in the glass!

20130822-091335.jpgWe bought a couple more bottles…LOL!

We strolled back to our perch for an afternoon of people watching…and may I say it was quite and interesting afternoon with plenty of personality.
Retired military with their wives…
Groups of loud, celebrating couples…
Auditioning dance contestants…(inside joke)
Bridal parties…

Our favorite examples of personalities…

An hour before the concert started Kix Brooks strolled out for some time with his fans.

Concert starts…

We had a wonderful day, along with about 7000 other visitors and fans but, due to the long drive ahead of us and taking the time zone difference into consideration, we left and headed home. “Just A Glorious Day At The Vineyard!”

Hope you enjoyed this little tour!

“May your cup runneth over with joy, love and laughter oh, and really fabulous coffee!”

About justbetweencousins

We are first cousins who live farther apart from each other than we would like. We thought this blog would give us a chance to visit with each other as well as maybe share a few insights about life. We are both middle aged and until recently both of us had kids the same age (nearly grown). But then the Peach State cuz adopted a son, so she has four now. Heart of Dixie cuz has two daughters. We have a couple of things which are prominently in common (although I'm sure there are actually more): We vacation at our Mema's beach house in Panama City Beach, Florida - until recently, we did so with all of our kids. We both sing - although Heart of Dixie cuz is not currently singing anywhere right now. We both write. We are both Christians, although Peach State cuz is Baptist, and Heart of Dixie is currently floating about between the Anglican church, the Methodist church, and the Episcopalian church. Long story.
