Peach State says: So…What Did You Do Today?
We know all to well NOT to ask it but we do. It may be out of kindness or just a plain conversation started. “Hey Honey…What Did You Do Today?
As I looked around at the chaotic-debris-field-called-home I smiled and said…
“Well I cleaned out the freezers and cooked about 13 pounds of ground beef and 10 chicken breasts. I shredded the chicken and divided it into four meals and then once the ground beef was completed and cooling I divided it into 10 meals. I cleaned up behind myself. While the chicken was cooking I was cutting out coupons and making my grocery list as I planned the menu for the next week. I let “Precious Princess” in and out at least 50 times and unloaded and loaded the dishwasher. I washed the clothes and towels and they are folded and put away. I picked up your dry cleaning and took your youngest to TKD. I then came home and cooked dinner and cleaned up from that while moving the laundry again. I carried on conversations with the children and tried to convince them that Mother does possess some knowledge. I watched the weather and investigated the worsening conditions for those driving home in the darkening-stormy skies. I straightened as best I could around the painting project filled house and…”
“OKAY!…I was just hoping you had a good day…I never thought you weren’t busy!”
“But there is more…” I said. Hubby just smiled and asked if I brought the mail in…”Nope, I delegated that to one of the boys…”
We each do more than we think everyday. When we sit down and think about it we wonder how we found time to do each and every thing. The little things get lost in the doing of major things…I know you can identify with this!
I saw this story and just had to share it…it speaks to the little-everyday-things we take for granted.
A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.
Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.
In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.
In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, ****my soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.
As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, “What happened here today?” She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you came home from work and ask me what in the world did I do today?” “Yes,” was his incredulous reply.
She answered, “Well, today I didn’t do it.”
I hope you get everything accomplished and have time for you today!
Have a great day!
