Peach State says: Tree of Thanksgiving!

Decided to try something different this year!

With everything going crazy with work schedules the common-everyday-routines-and-take-it-for-granted mentality I wanted to cause my family to think. Think about what is important in our lives and the things we should remember to be thankful for. This year I added this simple decoration….Tree of Thanksgiving!

I am hoping to cause enough of a stir, with this simple twig, and get my family to think for a moment.
And during that short-split-second-pause will plant a seed of thankfulness…of course I also expect some laughter and “What is a tree branch doing in my house?”

It is easy…
Find a branch…that was easy after all the wind we have had.

Cut out some colorful leaves…

Write different reasons to be thankful and attach to the branch.
Place in a weighted vase or container.

Display.

I am hoping the family will add their own reasons to be thankful but you have to remember I have 3 grown boys who will not think it is cool and a twelve year old that will sneak a tree limb into his room and try to decorate it for himself. But a mother can dream! I may have to take this to the next level next time but for now this will do. What do you think?
Have you done something like this before? Let me know!

Have a great day!

About justbetweencousins

We are first cousins who live farther apart from each other than we would like. We thought this blog would give us a chance to visit with each other as well as maybe share a few insights about life. We are both middle aged and until recently both of us had kids the same age (nearly grown). But then the Peach State cuz adopted a son, so she has four now. Heart of Dixie cuz has two daughters. We have a couple of things which are prominently in common (although I'm sure there are actually more): We vacation at our Mema's beach house in Panama City Beach, Florida - until recently, we did so with all of our kids. We both sing - although Heart of Dixie cuz is not currently singing anywhere right now. We both write. We are both Christians, although Peach State cuz is Baptist, and Heart of Dixie is currently floating about between the Anglican church, the Methodist church, and the Episcopalian church. Long story.

  1. I think this is a wonderful idea! You need to put it on facebook as well. It is a good way to let us count our blessings! I like the look of it, too! It is just standing there empty, but then it blooms with color as it receives leaves of blessings! I am going to talk to my daughter about us doing that at her house, since we have our TG dinner over there. I think we should require everyone to fill out at least one leaf! Like your older sons, some will think it is lame, but it will be a good memory, and the lesson WILL sink in one day, for sure!

  2. Well, the joke’s on them, and YOU get the last laugh! Glad to hear that hubby liked it!
